NC Scholarship Programs
The Martin Luther King Association of Asheville and Buncombe County The MLK Association honors area high school and middle school students who have demonstrated leadership, intellectual, and community engagement skills. In addition to receiving recognition awards, up to three students each year are awarded a scholarship to the university of their choice.
The North Carolina Teaching Fellows Program is a competitive, merit-based forgivable loans for service program that provides up to $4,125 a semester ($8,250 a year) for up to four years to highly-qualified students committed to teaching special education or a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) field in a North Carolina public school.

North Carolina Scholarship for Children of Wartime Veterans The Scholarship program has been established for a child of certain class categories of deceased, disabled, combat, or POW/MIA veterans and provides funding for 8 academic semesters.
Kids’ Chance of North Carolina Scholarships Provides scholarships for children of workers that have been killed or seriously injured in a compensable work-related accident or occupational disease. Scholarships are awarded once a year and students may apply every year for which they are eligible, up to five years total. Current annual scholarship amounts range from $2,000 to $5,000 and are determined based on the student’s financial need.
Betsy Y. Justus Founders Scholarship Program A scholarship to support young women in North Carolina who pursue an academic and career path in Technology or Engineering. Every year, two students are selected to receive a $4,000 scholarship ($1,000 per year), and a ThinkPad laptop.
North Carolina Criminal Justice Fellows Program The mission of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Fellows Program is to recruit talented high school senior graduates into the criminal justice profession. Each year this program will fund fellowships for high school senior graduates who have exhibited high academic achievement, a history of service to the school and community, and a desire to serve the state of North Carolina in a field within the criminal justice profession.
