Driver's Ed General Information
Drivers Education
Students must complete a 30 hour drivers education course either online or in person. Classes are done at all high schools but most require that they are only available for students in their district or school. We have in person classes at AHS but we only do them about 4/per year as there is one instructor that rotates high schools.
After a student completes the 30 hour course - they receive a restricted instruction permit sheet. They must take this sheet to the DMV and have their eye exam done. Most students that take the in person class have this done within the framework of the classroom.
All completed RIP sheets then must go to Mountain Professionals either through email or snail mail. If this form is completed during class the instructor will take them and send them to Mountain Professionals.
Upon receipt of the sheets, students will then be assigned an instructor for behind the wheel training. Students have to complete 6 hours of driving time. This can be done during the school day ONLY during PE classes or 5th period. Any student who does it any other time will be given an unexcused absence for that class period.
After the 6 hours are done, the student can then sign up to take the permit test at the DMV and obtain their learners permit. The only exception is academic, they must be in good academic standing to obtain the permit. Students have to get an eligibility certificate from the registrar’s office proving they are eligible to obtain the permit.
Day of DMV appointment, need to take the following:
- Original Birth Certificate or Passport
- Social Security Card
- Drivers Ed. Completion Certificate
- Eligibility Certificate
- Unofficial Transcript - some require it and others never request - better to bring it with you
